California Dmv license plate: Los Angeles family clarifies ‘LOLOCT7’ license plate after DMV apologizes

Los Angeles family clarifies 'LOLOCT7' license plate after DMV apologizes
This license plate caused quite a stir when it was interpreted as ‘Laughing out Loud’ on 7 October.

A family in Los Angeles came forward and clarified that the number plate that said LOLOCT7 was not to mock the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel, but was a “loving nod to their grandfather.” The family’s statement came after the license plate caused a major uproar, and the DMV apologized profusely for it.
A Tesla Cybertruck in California was spotted with a number plate interpreted as hateful towards Israelis as the letters and numbers read ‘LOL’ on October 17.
“This is unacceptable and disturbing. The DMV is taking swift action to revoke these shocking plates, and we will immediately strengthen our internal review process to ensure such an egregious oversight never happens again,” the DMV said in a statement.
“We sincerely regret that these personal records were not properly rejected during our review process.”
“The use of hate speech is not only a clear violation of our policies, but also a violation of our core values of proudly serving the public and ensuring safe and welcoming roads.”
“StopAntisemitism is appalled by the sickening display on a Cyber Truck plate in California celebrating terrorism against the Jewish people,” the group wrote.
It called the plates “a disgusting mockery of the 1,200 innocent lives lost and the countless others injured” and shared a formal letter supporters were to send to the California DMV demanding action.
The family came out and gave an explanation after the DMV’s statement, saying they weren’t even given a chance to explain the meaning of the license plate since it wasn’t ‘LOL OCT 7’ but ‘LOLO CT 7’.
“LOLO” means grandfather in Tagalog, “CT” stands for Cyber Truck and “7” refers to the number of grandchildren,” a family member, who requested anonymity, told NBC 4.
“We are a big Filipino family and this had nothing to do with the conflict in the Middle East,” the person said, adding that they were going to change the license plate anyway after it caused such an uproar and after the DMV apologized for it.
