The Los Angeles Lakers appear to be looking for some reinforcements ahead of the 2025 NBA trade deadline.

Tim Bontemps of ESPN reported Friday that the Lakers are looking to secure two key spots after a bumpy 13-11 start.

“That has led to a belief among rival scouts and executives that the Lakers would love to find both a point guard and a big man to fill out their roster — though adding both won’t be easy, with the team’s limited assets, ” Bontemps wrote.

Bontemps noted that the Lakers could use guard D’Angelo Russell’s expiring contract as well as their first-round picks in 2029 and 2031 to potentially facilitate a move.

The Lakers, who have lost three of their last four games, are in eighth place in the Western Conference. They are 3-7 in their last 10 games after a 10-4 start.

LeBron James, who has missed practice this week for personal reasons, is expected to sit out Friday night’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves with a foot injury, said team Thursday.

Making a move to improve the roster could help shake up the current pace and maximize the dwindling time James has left in the NBA.
