LSU lands Oklahoma tight end transfer Bauer Sharp from the portal

LSU have landed one of the top tight ends available in the transfer portal. Previous Oklahoma tight end Bauer Sharp has signed with the Tigers, according to On3’s Pete Nakos.

Sharp led Oklahoma in receptions and receiving yards this past season, finishing with 42 receptions for 324 yards and two touchdowns. It was his first season with the Sooners after transferring from Southeastern Louisiana University.

Now Sharp heads back to Louisiana to play for Brian Kelly and LSU. He should be a top option at quarterback Garrett Nussmeier in 2025.

Sharp signed with Southeastern Louisiana at quarterback before switching to tight end during the spring of 2022.

Sharp caught 11 passes for 78 yards and a touchdown during his first season playing tight end for the Lions and added 10 carries for 83 yards. He was even more productive in 2023, catching 29 passes for 288 yards and three touchdowns.

Sharp showed he can play at the SEC level with his game in 2024. Now he will look to be a major contributor for LSU in 2025.

Garrett Nussmeier announces return to LSU for 2025 season

As noted, news of Sharp committing to LSU came after Tigers quarterback Garrett Nussmeier announced earlier this week that he will return for the 2025 season.

Nussmeier has already played in 30 career games for the Tigers in four seasons in Baton Rouge.

“I feel that my time at LSU is not over. I am officially announcing that I am returning for my final year of eligibility. And I am fully committed to bringing this university a championship. My teammates, coaches and fans will get the absolute best out of me every single day until we complete that goal. Go Tigers,” Nussmeier said in a video.

Nussmeier got his first chance to be a full-time starter for LSU in 2024 and showed flashes of tremendous arm talent. He finished the 12-game regular season with 3,739 passing yards on 63.7% completion and 26 touchdowns to 11 interceptions. He also rushed for a trio of touchdowns.
