The National Weather Service in Jackson, MS is issuing severe weather advisories

Jackson and much of central Mississippi is under a severe weather threat Saturday night, according to the National Weather Service.

Damaging winds up to 80 miles per hour, golf ball-sized hail and tornadoes are possible until 8 p.m. 8:00 PM in Central Mississippi, including Jackson. The NWS is issuing the same warning for eastern parts of the Mississippi until 6 p.m

Hattiesburg and Laurel are under a similar threat from 22.00 to 02.00 Saturday to Sunday.

Tornadoes have been observed near Gluckstadt, Crystal Springs and Pelahatchie. Entergy Mississippi reported that more than 40,000 customers were affected by power outages in the middle of the storm.

At 7:23 p.m., the NWS confirmed that a “tornado was located near Pelahatchie or 10 miles west of Morton moving northeast at 55 mph.”

The NWS issued tornado warnings at 6:30 p.m. for Northeastern Yazoo County, Northeastern Hinds County and Madison County until 19.30. Parts of Rankin County were under a warning until 7:45 p.m.

“At 630 CST, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Bolton, or 10 miles west of Clinton, moving northeast at 40 mph,” the NWS stated.

At 6:40 p.m., a confirmed tornado was located near Crystal Springs moving northeast at 55 mph. No damage reports have yet been issued. Radar confirmed the tornado.

At 6:51 p.m., the NWS confirmed that a “tornado was located near Annandale or near Gluckstadt moving east at 45 mph.”

“Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter,” the NWS warned. “Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows and vehicles will occur. Damage to trees is likely.”

The NWS urged caution for the following areas in the potential path.

  • Jackson, Whites, Byram and Terry around 18.45
  • Florence around 18.50
  • Richland and Monterey around 18.55
  • Pearl around 19.00 Flowood and Brandon around 19.05
  • Fannin around 19:15
  • Pisgah around 7:25 p.m

Earlier, at 6:06 p.m., the NWS issued a tornado warning for Northwestern Hinds County and Southeastern Warren County until 6 p.m. 18.45

“At 6:06 p.m. CST, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Newman, or 8 miles southeast of Vicksburg, moving northeast at 60 mph,” the NWS stated.

A tornado warning was issued for the following Mississippi counties until 6:15 p.m., according to the NWS in Jackson – South Central Simpson County in Central Mississippi, Lincoln County in South Central Mississippi, Northern Lawrence County in South Central Mississippi and Southeastern Copiah County in Central Mississippi.

At 5:16 p.m., the NWS noted “a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Summit or near Mccomb moving northeast at 50 mph.”
