Squirrel White injury update: Tennessee WR goes to locker vs Ohio State

Tennessee have struggled to get anything going in attack against Ohio Stateby just three points late in the second quarter. Losing one of the team’s best weapons certainly doesn’t help the Volunteers. Unfortunately, it looks like wide receiver Squirrel white will be out of action for some time.

White caught a pass from Nico Iamaleava but was slow to rise. Tennessee trainers entered the field, but White was on his feet at the time and left under his own power. Several trips to the medical tent were made due to an injury to the right leg.

Just before halftime, White was spotted heading back to the Tennessee locker room. ABC’s broadcast later showed him in the tunnel with a very noticeable limp.

“Tennessee WR Squirrel White is taken to locker room after being injured earlier this quarter,” ESPN’s Chris Low said via X. “White has been hampered by injuries this season.”

White has just one reception for 17 yards on the night. The injury occurred after making his catch.

Tennessee QB Nico Iamaleava cracks helmet early vs. Ohio State

Josh Heupel knew the physicality was coming on Saturday against Ohio State. The Tennessee head coach probably didn’t bet on his quarterback, Nico Iamaleavawith a cracked helmet after a drive. But when Iamaleavea went to the sideline early in the first quarter with a large crack on a white part of the helmet.

Ohio State tried to bring Iamaleava to the ground on a third down when the linebacker Cody Simon stepped up. A large collision between the two saw helmet-to-helmet contact, but not to the degree of targeting.

Before taking the field for Tennessee’s second drive, a brand new helmet was required. A struggle for the team’s equipment staff, although the Ohio State offense gave them little time to come up with a replacement.

“It was a huge hit,” ESPN’s Marty Smith said. “Actually, it put a six-inch crack on top of Nico Iamaleava’s helmet. He now has a new helmet. The equipment staff at Tennessee has been working hard lately to try to prepare for the new helmet. They just told me that the equipment staff did, it was very similar to what happened with Patrick Mahomes‘ helmet in Kansas City a few weeks ago.
