Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb has suffered another major injury setback.

The 28-year-old, who has had a difficult injury history, was ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs after suffering an apparent non-contact foot injury in the third quarter. After the game, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski told reporters that Chubb had broken his left foot.

“I had a front row seat to what he’s been able to do. I can’t tell you how much I respect him as a person,” Stefanski said in the postgame press conference. “Really, really disappointed with this injury. (But it) doesn’t change the fact that he continues to inspire this football team with how he approaches every single day. And I know this is just another hurdle that he will overcome.”

During a fake play, Chubb ran toward the line while Jameis Winston held the ball. Chubb appeared to take a heavy step on his left foot and pulled up while holding his left foot in the air. He was initially judged as doubtful, and then officially excluded by the team after an evaluation.

The Chiefs won the game 21-7.

After the game, Chubb left the locker room on crutches and a boot on his left foot, according to The Athletic’s Zac Jackson.

Chubb missed the start of the season after suffering a brutal left knee injury in September 2023; he had previously injured the same knee in 2015. After spending more than a year overcoming the injury, Chubb made his 2024 season debut in Week 7’s loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, scoring a touchdown in his return.

Before leaving Sunday’s game, Chubb had nine carries and ran for 41 yards. He also lost a fumble, and let a pass slip that led to Chiefs linebacker Nick Bolton getting a wild interception.
