LRPD: Two injured in shooting Friday afternoon at Park Plaza Mall

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Friday afternoon, officials from the Little Rock Police Department investigated a shooting at Park Plaza Mall that left two injured.

According to the city’s dispatch log, officers responded to an active assault call at the mall location at 10 p.m. 13.45

In a statement, LRPD officials said an injured victim was discovered at the scene and transported to a local hospital. Shortly after, another victim with gunshot wounds arrived at another hospital, and police said both victims are expected to make a full recovery.

Officials from the Little Rock Police Department initially announced on social media that three were injured in the shooting, but said later that there were only two victims.

LRPD Police Chief Heath Helton said officers acted quickly to ensure public safety.

“Our officers acted quickly to secure the scene and ensure public safety,” Helton said. “On behalf of the Little Rock Police Department, our thoughts and prayers are with the families and victims of this senseless act, and we are relieved that the victims are expected to recover, and we remain committed to holding those responsible accountable.”

Detectives have not identified a suspect at this time.

IN a statement on social mediasaid Little Rock Mayor Frank Scott, Jr. that gun violence in any form at any time is unacceptable.

“The careless, senseless and criminal actions of two individuals today put the lives and safety of residents and visitors at risk. We pray for the victims of this incident and hope they make a full recovery.”

The mayor also thanked police officers, first responders and those who responded quickly.

“We are grateful to our law enforcement, first responders, mall security and employees, and everyone who acted quickly to ensure safety and protect others.”

Park Plaza Mall officials released a statement saying the mall will be closed for the rest of the day.

“Our hearts go out to the individuals affected by this incident, along with their loved ones,” the statement said. “The safety and well-being of our guests and the community remains our top priority, and we are cooperating fully with law enforcement in their ongoing investigation. Park Plaza will be closed for the remainder of the day.”
