Jerry Jones not interested in Cowboys tanking: ‘This isn’t over’

FRISCO, Texas – One thing seems pretty clear about the Cowboys as they prepare for Thursday’s Thanksgiving game with the Giants and a 4-7 record:

The only kind of “tank” they seem interested in is him getting DeMarcus Lawrence back from injury at some point.

But when it comes to “tanking” games to get a better draft pick, no one seems to think about it, especially owner/GM Jerry Jones.

“It hasn’t come across anybody in this organization,” Jones told 105.3 The Fan. “Someone will say…’You have to play for a higher draft pick, Jones.’

Jones was asked about Micah Parsons’ recent postgame comments that suggested the same thing, hoping to “destroy” anyone’s ideas about losing games to get a better pick.

“I loved it. Just absolutely loved it,” Jones said. “Micah gets criticized for some of the things he says. The way it was phrased was strong. It was a terse statement. That’s just the way it is.”

Jones added: “I just think the game is too important. The win is too important. . . . A win is a very satisfying thing in any case. It helps you build. There’s a lot of ambiguity with these draft picks.”

Jones knows injuries can be an excuse for any team in the league and understands the “next man up” philosophy, but also knows this year has been the exception for his team, which has seen half of the Week 1 starting lineup go miss at least one game this time. year.

“Everybody has injuries as an excuse to use in the NFL,” Jones said. “We’ve had a train wreck this year with our player availability. There’s no doubt about it. You can start right up there with Dak. There’s been some good work done in terms of how we’ve handled the unavailability of our players – and a bunch of them.

The good news for Jones and the Cowboys? Slowly but surely they start to get healthier. And it happens at an appropriate time.

“We’re going to start getting a lot of them back,” he said. “You saw some of them back last weekend. You’ll see some of them back this week, and you’ll really see some more back next week. And that’s why we’re really going to take advantage of an uptick here and put some victories together.
