Mellberg and Engelmark on the way to leave BP

The then 39-year-old Andreas Engelmark came in as Allsvenskan’s least experienced coach before BP’s comeback in Allsvenskan 2023.

Barely two years later, he and pair horse Olof Mellberg, 47, have led BP to a final 10th place in the allsvenskan – the club’s best position ever.

– It went very, very well last year. Despite the player turnover we had last winter.

Club director Peter Kleve claimed it was the strongest men’s squad in the club’s history?

– BP’s most expensive squad ever, he probably means. But I guess Kleve will have to answer that. But it is important to get it together as well.

BP dropped names given before the season in the starting eleven such as Amadeus Sögaard, Samuel Leach Holm, Oscar Pettersson, Kevin Ackermann and Jesper Löfgren.

Men rained millions upon the club last winter since BP fostered Lucas Bergvall and Jonah Kusi-Asare gone to Tottenham and Bayern München – a total of 45 million kroner, according to Aftonbladet’s information – which enabled the club to take in replacements.

“Jump and think it’s going to be a bra”

The talent club became the recruit club.

– We brought in quality players and managed to get a team together. And managed to build on our game, says Andreas Engelmark.

Both his and Mellberg’s contracts expire och enligt Aftonbladet’s information is Olof Mellberg on his way to take over the main responsibility of the MLS team St Louis City SC. It is unclear whether Andreas Engelmark will follow him there in that case.

According to both Aftonbladet and Fotbollskanalen, among others, Häcken and Djurgården have shown interest in Andreas Engelmark.

– Nothing is yet 100 percent certain about my relationship with BP. But I hope and believe so clearly that it will be bra.

Have you decided on a new club?

– No, the same applies as before. Interest is based, but nothing is concrete yet.

Andreas Engelmark laughs. The trainer seems to want to celebrate Christmas without the silly season reporter as stör.

– I hope everything is ready before Christmas, maybe earlier.

Do you want to continue with Olof Mellberg?

– It is absolutely an alternative, nothing is certain there. We’ve had a good time here together. I learn a lot from him and would definitely like to continue working with him. But the clubs must also say.

Addendum: The P19 coach takes over

According to Sportbladet’s information, BP’s current P19 coach Ulf Kristiansson, who has previously been connected with several youth national teams, among other things, has been cleared for a coaching role in the first team for next year. The same shall apply to IFK Norrköping’s assistant coaches Fredrik Landén.

Background: Started in BP’s football as a 6-year-old and played in the club until the age of 15.

Coach assignment: Ängby IP, fotbollsföretaget Svenska fotbollsakademin. Came back to BP as youth manager in 2010 and has since been, among other things, head of academy at the club and also worked in the academy at the MLS team Columbus Crew. Was assistant coach in BP’s men’s team between 2020 to 2022, before introducing BP’s allsvenska comeback 2023 together over the main responsibility together with Olof Mellberg.

Current: Like Olof Mellberg, has an expiring contract with BP, after the club’s best position in Allsvenskan so far. Has been rumored for a while to be pursued by both BK Häcken and Djurgården.
