Who’s in the NWSL Finals?

The NWSL final will take place today at 8:00 PM ET, with the Orlando Pride facing off against the Washington Spirit. The Orlando Pride hold the NWSL Shield, which is awarded for first place at the end of the regular season, and this match will be the team’s first appearance in an NWSL final. The Washington Spirit have made two appearances and have won once in 2021. They were ranked #2 at the end of the regular season.

The playoffs saw the Pride defeat the Chicago Red Stars and KC Current to earn a spot in the finals, while the Washington Spirit beat Bay FC and reigning champions NY/NJ Gotham FC to earn their spot. As a relatively small league of 14 clubs, the NWSL does not have conferences or divisions – instead, playoff games are decided by standings.

Like the SuperBowl, the NWSL Championship is played at a predetermined location, so no team typically has a home court advantage. This year the match will be played at the CPKC Stadium. The regular season home of the Kansas City Current, it is the first stadium in the world built exclusively for a women’s professional sports team.
