Maine’s Hannah Prince leads the St. Joe’s field hockey to historic Final Four appearance

PORTLAND (WGME) – The Division I Field Hockey Final Four begins Friday in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

And for the first time in the school’s history, St. Joe’s of Pennsylvania in the national semifinals.

The Hawks are soaring thanks to a Maine native and former Gorham great!

Hannah Prince is one of the most decorated field hockey players in Maine history. A former star player at Gorham High School, the University of Massachusetts and the US National Team.

“We’re just getting going right now and I love the momentum we have,” Prince said.

But now Hannah is starting her third season as head coach for St. Joseph’s University, a Division I field hockey powerhouse in Philadelphia!

“So when I took over in 2022, the program was in a great place and I had a great talented group and I just wanted to figure out the best ways to continue to get the most out of them,” Prince said.

Hannah has done it and then – for the first time in the program’s history, St. Joe’s in the National Semi-Finals!

“We’re just so excited to be in this position this year. You know, it’s been a goal for us for a long time, ever since I’ve been here, to make a Final Four and just be a part of it. and seeing the management and how it developed and seeing the team flourish right now has just been so rewarding and fun,” said Prince.

The Hawks will face top seed North Carolina on Friday with a trip to the National Championship on the line! Hannah says the excitement throughout Philadelphia has been electric!

“The campus rallied, the community rallied, we had the bleachers packed, the perimeter of the field packed, they brought in extra bleachers. It was such a cool buzz and it was so much fun to be a part of,” Prince said.

Win or lose on Friday, it’s been a historic season for the Hawks and their coach who helped pave the way!
