Georgia army base ‘all ready’ after lockdown

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) – A U.S. Army installation in Georgia was locked down Saturday morning, but then given the “all clear” less than an hour later, as the base said “the dangerous event is over.”

The operations center at Fort Eisenhower posted the alert on social media with a “LOCK DOWN! SHUTDOWN!” message.

“Perform lockout procedures on the installation immediately! If you are in danger, take appropriate action,” the message reads.

A short time later, the operations center said the threat was over and normal operations could resume. However, the base canceled activities in connection with this afternoon’s Army-Navy football game, which was being played outside of Washington.

No further details were immediately provided. The base’s public affairs officer, a spokesman for the base’s medical center and a spokesman for the nearby Richmond County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately return phone calls.

Formerly Fort Gordon, the facility is home to the US Army Cyber Command.
