Serious personal injury collision on SR 520 causes hour-long lane closures, traffic diversions

A crash involving multiple vehicles on westbound SR 520 at Montlake Blvd in Seattle blocked all lanes for hours Friday night.

The Washington State Department of Transportation originally reported the collision on X at 18.14. Then a few minutes later, at 6:23 p.m., posted a video showing the long backup the crash caused.

At 9:18 p.m., WSDOT posted an update on X reporting that all lanes had reopened.

At 19:06, Washington State Patrol Trooper Rick Johnson dispatched the X that traffic was diverted due to the crash. Johnson also noted that the incident was a “serious injury collision.” There were two people injured in two separate vehicles, according to the Seattle Fire Department. A 42-year-old man in serious condition and a woman in stable condition were both sent to Harborview Medical Center.

WSDOT encouraged all drivers to use alternate routes and traffic was rerouted onto Montlake Blvd and Lake Washington Blvd.

Traffic cameras along Montlake Blvd showed the crash that caused the traffic delay.

Based on the traffic camera feed, several cars were involved in the collision.

Incident Response, State Patrol and Fire responded to the scene, according to WSDOT. WSDOT said crews are working to clear traffic.
