‘Kraven the Hunter’ post credits scene, ending and more spoilers

Spoiler alert! We discuss key plot points and the ending of “Kraven the Hunter” (in theaters now), so watch out if you haven’t seen it yet.

At least “Kraven the Hunter” is good for one thing: It gives Aaron Taylor-Johnson a decent audition tape for a potential James Bond run, even if Sergei Kravinoff is more of an animal activist secret agent who wants to rip your throat out with a tiger’s tooth.

“The Collar” takes the Spider-Man supervillain from the comics — dating back to 1964’s “Amazing Spider-Man” no. 4 – and gives him an R-rated superhero origin story. Raised to hunt big game by his violent Russian mobster father Nikolai (Russell Crowe), Sergei was attacked by a lion as a teenager, and the potion that saved his life also gave him animal powers. Years later, and now known as Kraven, he is an anti-hero who takes down poachers and hunts down criminals who usually leave a bloody mess in his wake.

Let’s dig into the hard-charging “Kraven” ending, a surprising spider-baddie reveal, and whether there’s a post-credits scene.

What happens at the end of ‘Kraven the Hunter’?

Kraven’s weak, nightclub-singing half-brother Dmitri (Fred Hechinger) is captured by the Rhino (Alessandro Nivola), who can transform into a horned Rhino Man, and this new version of the Spider-Enemy holds Dmitri ransom to get money out of Nikolaj. With the help of lawyer Calypso (Ariana DeBose), the girl who gave Kraven the aforementioned potion when they were kids, Kraven tracks down Rhino and rescues his brother, only to learn that Nikolai set this all up. He understands how powerful his estranged son is and wants him to be part of the family business.

The collar is not down at all. After removing the bullets from his father’s gun, he allows a bear to attack and kill his defenseless father. However, Kraven accepts a posthumous gift from Nikolai: the iconic lion-mane coat that Kraven wears in the comics.

Are There Other Spider-Man Villains Appearing in ‘The Collar’?

The foreigner (Christopher Abbott), a mercenary who works for Rhino, appeared in the comics. But another iconic A-list spider-villain also makes an appearance. In the film’s final scene, set a year after their father’s death, Kraven learns that former milquetoast Dmitri has now taken over his father’s crime operation and can change his face and impersonate the voice of anyone he wants, including Kraven. “You know me, I’ve always been a chameleon,” Dmitri tells his brother.

Enter Chameleona sinister master of disguise who has threatened poor Spidey even longer in the comics than his sibling Kraven. In between Dmitri’s face swaps in the film, there is a glimpse of his shiny silver facade – a nod to what the character looks like on the page.

Does ‘Kraven’ have a post-credits scene?

There could have been all sorts of teasers. Maybe a hint to the mysterious “doctor in New York” who did some weird mojo to turn Dmitri into the chameleon. Or Kraven seeing a Daily Bugle article about Spider-Man and maybe the growl. Or even an appearance from Tom Holland’s Peter Parker that would mean two hours weren’t wasted watching this forgettable origin story about a villain who isn’t really THAT bad.

But no. No post-credits scene at all, which sadly seems to fit what is probably Sony’s last gasp at giving side Spidey characters like Venom and Morbius their own solo movies. And for fans who are bored, which at this point is worse: Something like Michael Keaton’s Vulture returning in a “Morbius” extra scene that hinted at a sinister teaming that was never going to happen, or just nothing?
