Higgins: Social Security Fairness Act Becomes Law

Washington, DC – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) announced today that HR 82, the Social Security Fairness Act (SSFA), is headed to the President’s desk to be signed into law after passage in the US House and Senate.

“Final justice for our elders, finally praise God’s justice for our beloved elders. We have broken the yoke of the unjust law and followed God’s command to honor our mothers and fathers.” Congressman Higgins said.

Congressman Higgins has been one of the strongest and most vocal proponents of the bill, which repeals the unfair Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO) that penalize millions of public employees across the United States.

For seven years, Congressman Higgins has advocated for passage of the Social Security Fairness Act. He has co-sponsored legislation in every Congress he has served.

His efforts include:

  • December 14, 2017 – Co-sponsored the Social Security Fairness Act of the 115th Congress.
  • January 17, 2019 – Co-sponsored the Social Security Fairness Act of the 116th Congress.
  • February 1, 2021 – Cosponsored the Social Security Fairness Act of the 117th Congress.
  • August 16, 2022 – Made a personal plea to Speaker Pelosi, calling for a vote on the Social Security Fairness Act. Read more here.
  • September 30, 2022 – Became the 15th signature on a print request to force a vote in Parliament on the bill.
  • January 10, 2023 – Cosponsored the Social Security Fairness Act of the 118th Congress.
