Raiders assistant coach Scott Turner could join Bill Belichick’s staff

The news of legendary New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick agreeing to go to the college ranks and take over the program at North Carolina sent shock waves throughout the NFL on Wednesday.

It didn’t take long for a Las Vegas Raiders connection to emerge. ESPN reported that Raiders interim offensive coordinator Scott Turner is a possibility to join Belichick’s staff in Chapel Hill as the Tar Heels’ offensive coordinator.

On Sunday, NFL Media reported the same.

Turner has been the Raiders’ passing game coordinator since 2023, and he was promoted to the interim offensive coordinator job in November after Luke Getsy was fired.

Turner was hired by Josh McDaniels in Las Vegas. McDaniels is close to Belichick. Many believed McDaniels could also join Belichick in North Carolina.

Turner, 42, has not coached in the college ranks since he was an offensive analyst at Michigan in 2017.

Should Turner join Belichick’s staff, it is not known whether he would leave the Raiders immediately or wait until after the season.
