Saints’ Alvin Kamara makes impressive TD catch on throwback

NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Saints generated just 38 net yards of offense in the first half against the Washington Commanders. So they made some changes to get their offense going in the third quarter.

Saints wide receiver Cedrick Wilson Jr. threw his first touchdown pass since 2020, receiving a throw from rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler and then finding running back Alvin Kamara for a 21-yard touchdown on first-and-10 with 5:53 left in the third quarter.

The Saints trailed 17-7 after the touchdown pass.

Rattler set up the scoring with a 39-yard pass to wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling on the previous play. Rattler, coming in for Jake Haener to start the second half, stepped up in the pocket on second-and-11 to find Valdes-Scantling downfield.

Valdes-Scantling managed to hang onto the ball despite colliding with a Commanders defender just after securing the ball.

Haener started the game in relief of an injured Derek Carr, but was benched for the Rattlers after one half. Rattler started three games earlier in the second in relief of Carr, who had an oblique injury. Carr is currently out with an injury to his non-throwing hand.
