Who will play point guard with Lamont Butler and Kerr Kriisa injured?

The Kentucky Wildcats have a problem at the point guard position. Both of their main point guards and really the only ones who logged meaningful minutes are injured. Kerr Kriisa broke his foot and is out somewhere between 3-6 weeks, and Lamont Butler is day-to-day with a sprained ankle. Butler could be back tonight and help hold the position, but there is a distinct possibility that head coach Mark Pope will let him rest a little longer.

Certainly without Kriisa, and if Butler can’t go, who can play point guard? There is only one other scholarship point guard on the roster and that is Travis Perry. He is a true freshman and has only played a handful of minutes so far this year.

Travis Perry is a possibility.

Pope had really good things to say about Perry if prompted. “I have a lot of confidence in Travis Perry; he’s a great player and he would definitely be a viable option.” Pope made those comments before the Gonzaga game. Perry didn’t really get the opportunity down the stretch with the game on the line and the comeback nearly complete. Pope instead turned to Jaxson Robinson.

Jaxson Robinson is another option.

Robinson got the bulk of the duty in the Gonzaga game when both Kriisa and Butler were out. Robinson has played small point guard in his time with Pope at BYU. He also understands the offense best in the team and knows how to move the right pieces around. He’s not an ideal point guard in terms of size, but that seemed to give him the juice to impact the game in an impressive win over the Zags.

Collin Chandler could see some looks as well.

Similar to Robinson, Chandler is not a point guard, but plays very similar to Robinson and seems to understand what Pope is asking the offense to do. He is athletic and mature with his basketball decisions. He has also been seen in training this week.

There is your answer from the Pope. If Butler and Kriisa can’t go, we’ll see a Robinson, Perry, Chandler combo at this point.
