‘Almost lost my face’: Da OG Maco opened up about his battle with ‘skin eating disease’

Rapper AND Maco was admitted Thursday with a gunshot wound to the head. TMZ reported that police responded to a 911 call in the Los Angeles area after a neighbor heard a gunshot coming from a home. The authorities suspect that the incident may be a suicide attempt.

In the midst of this, old videos have resurfaced in which Maco revealed that he suffered from a “skin-eating disease” known as necrotizing fasciitis, which he developed after being mistreated for a rash.

Taking to Instagram Stories in March 2019, the Atlanta native shared photos showing scabs covering much of his face and scalp.

“So much healing has happened thanks to God and my doctors that I’m willing to show a fraction of what I’ve been through,” Maco wrote over a photo. “I was mistreated for a minor rash and ended up with a skin-eating disease for the last few months.”

“This is the best it’s looked. I hope it gives someone hope,” he added.

Maco later expressed that he had largely fought the disease without support.

“I’ve been through this alone 90% of the time, without the support of the person I love, without most of my ‘friends’ with nothing but my own strength and God,” Maco wrote on Instagram. “Boyfriends/lovers will leave you at your worst. Friendship is often just a word. Actions are everything. Believe in those who show you actions worth believing in.”

In a separate video, Maco revealed the severity of his condition and shared that he almost lost his face completely.

“I’ve been going through this for about three months and everyone I really thought I could trust wasn’t there. People that I’ve given all my love to – everything just didn’t show up and it got me to not really trust anyone or believe in anything,” Maco said.

“I’ve been very scared, I didn’t know what was going to happen, I didn’t know if I was going to lose my whole face – I almost did. Necrotizing – or any kind of flesh-eating bacteria, if you ever get one, you just keep the faith (and) follow the regimen your doctors give you,” he added.

Maco is best known for his 2014 viral smash ‘U Guessed It’.
