MORNING’S forecast:

Much of your Friday will be quiet, cloudy, windy and cold, but our attention turns to the later hours of Friday as we forecast sleet and ice to affect all of Siouxland.

The National Weather Service has placed all of Siouxland under a winter weather advisory starting Friday afternoon and lasting through early Saturday.

As this breaks down, we will start to see winter weather move in around 5 p.m. along and south of HWY 20.

By 7 and 8 PM, that’s when we’ll see more widespread winter weather impact Siouxland.

The pink color on the radar is the wintry mixture of sleet and freezing rain.

The wintry mix will continue through overnight Friday.

Early Saturday morning we could see another round of wintry mix moving in.

Again, this could be either sleet or freezing rain falling over Siouxland.

Right now, this is what we expect to see when it comes to ice cream.

If you live in the yellow, you can see a glaze on a tenth of an inch of ice.

If you live in orange, you can see the biggest impacts of the ice. We predict you all to get between a tenth of an inch to up to a quarter of an inch of ice.

This will cause many travel problems this weekend.

We mainly expect to see ice and sleet, but there is a slight chance of light snow.

Mostly, snow amounts will remain less than an inch.

Because of all the winter weather, we have issued a First Alert Weather Day for Friday and Saturday.

Again, the main focus out of this storm will be the ice and sleet.

Besides the wintry weather, your Friday will be mostly quiet as the clouds lift during the day.

The wind will also pick up, making it windy and somewhat cold during the day.

Highs will be in the mid to low 20s.

Then in the afternoon and evening, sleet and freezing rain begin to move in.

Tonight’s focus will be sleet and freezing rain falling across Siouxland.

Lows will drop into the teens and low 20s.

We anticipate seeing a track to just under a quarter inch of ice.

Your Saturday starts with a wintry mix of sleet and freezing rain, but as the day progresses, the wintry mix ends.

Temperatures will hover around 32 degrees during the day on Saturday.

EXTENDED FORECAST:

Whatever falls on Friday and Saturday will continue through Saturday night and into Sunday.

The good news is that things will thaw on Sunday and Monday. We predict highs will get into the 40s.

Late next week, cold air will return as highs will be in the 20s and 30s.
