The Reagans came together to protect New York City in the epic and emotional blue blood series finale after a madman threatens to endanger all of their lives.

Warning: Spoilers below for Blue Bloods Season 14 Episode 18.

On Friday, December 13, the episode began with the murder of a judge in NYC, which sent shockwaves through the city. As detectives Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) and Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez) began to investigate the murder and beat the police Eddie Janko (Vanessa Ray) and Luis Badillo (Ian Quinlan) responded to a carjacking call heard over the radio.

Eddie and Badillo are ambushed by gunmen on motorcycles as soon as they get out of their vehicle – and they are both shot. Across town, two men on another motorcycle fire at Mayor Chase (Dylan Walsh), who has been taken to hospital.

At the Office of the Assistant District Attorney, Erin Reagan (Bridget Moynahan) and her colleagues are surprised to receive a threatening video from a masked man who says that the gangs of New York are united and prepared to continue killing officials and cops unless certain prisoners are released.

Everyone soon realizes that their cases are all connected, with the Ace Double Tres (ADT) gang and Carlos Ramirez (Manny Perez) at the center of the chaos.

Before the mayor has to undergo surgery for his injuries, he gives Commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) the keys to the city, asking him to “get us out of this.” Frank does just that, using every resource at his disposal, which includes Erin asking her ex-husband, Jack Boyle (Peter Hermann), to pull a few strings and get him to sit down with prisoner Lorenzo Batista (Edward James Olmos), whose son shot the mayor.

Despite his concern for his wife, Eddie, who survived his attack, Jamie Reagan (Will Estes), worked with his nephew Joe Hill (Will Hochman) to track down one of the shooters. Unfortunately, Badillo doesn’t make it.

The cast of Blue Bloods doesn’t just play a family on TV, they’ve become a tight-knit group since the show premiered in 2010. The CBS series follows the lives of the Reagan family with Tom Selleck’s Commissioner Frank Reagan. Frank’s father, Henry Reagan (Len Cariou), sits across from him at the group’s weekly Sunday (…)

Eddie, meanwhile, doesn’t stay down for long and jumps back into action after Ramirez’s daughter — who fans met earlier in the season — called her and said her dad was scaring her. After his own death, Danny tracked down Ramirez, rescued his daughter, and took him into custody (using his usual charm and fatherly traits).

Jamie and Joe eventually find the gunman who shot Badillo when he came to visit his newborn baby in the hospital. Before Jamie took him away, Jamie asked Eddie to cuff him, which she did using Badillo’s police cuffs. The mayor’s shooter was also found and apprehended.

After a troubling few days, the Reagans get all the bad guys responsible for the threats and shootings. After Badillo’s police funeral – which everyone attended – the family celebrated their victory with a family dinner.

In addition to Frank, Danny, Erin, Jamie and Eddie, grandfather Henry Reagan (Lean Cariou) and Frank’s grandchildren, Nicky (Sami Gayle), Jack (Tony Terraciano) and Sean (Andrew Terracino), all had seats at the table. Erin’s on-again, off-again partner Jack was also sitting next to her.

“We have a lot to be thankful for. Looking around this table, I have to say I couldn’t be more proud and grateful,” Frank gushed before they all said grace one last time.

Frank happily returned the keys to the city to the mayor after saving the day with the help of his family and cops. He then attended Badillo’s funeral with all his loved ones by his side and shared a sweet message for Badillo’s mother. “Take a good look around, all of Luis’s family is here with you today,” he said as tears fell over the crowd.

Frank remained at the head of his family table to finish the series – and was still the police chief of New York City.

Henry Reagan

Len Cariou Blue Bloods

Henry stayed out of trouble throughout the finale, but gave his oldest grandson, Danny, some sage advice about his love life. At the end of the episode, Henry was happy and healthy, still living with his son, Frank.

During his hunt for Ramirez and his daughter, Danny has a heart-to-heart with Henry about his personal life. “I always told you not to take the job home,” Henry reminded Danny, noting that “the problem now is you have no one to take it home to.” He then told Danny to promise him that he would “find that person” after this case.

Danny heard his grandfather loud and clear and later asked his work partner, Baez, out on what appeared to be a date. “Do you want a pizza?” Danny said before the two left the precinct arm in arm.

After Jack helped the Reagans as a favor to Erin, the couple went for a walk. Erin and Jack, who were divorced but had seen each other again, took a trip down memory lane and remembered that they make a great team.

“We tried marriage, remember?” Jack reminded Erin, who replied, “Yeah, and despite our best efforts, we’re still here. One foot in and one foot out. Maybe we try both feet?”

She pointed out that “everyone deserves a second chance” and promised that it will be “different this time.” Erin then suggested, “Party of two? City Hall? Tell everyone about it afterwards?”

Jack agreed, and during the family dinner, Erin said she had a message hinting at the couple’s secret marriage. But after Jamie and Eddie shared their own big news, Erin chose to keep hers quiet and gave Jack a knowing look at the table.

Jamie Reagan

Will Estes's Blue Bloods
CBS

Jamie and Joe successfully worked together to track down a suspect, which was a heartwarming moment when earlier in the season Jamie gave Joe a car that belonged to his late father and Jamie’s brother, Joe Reagan.

The collaboration was even more emotional after Jamie nearly lost his wife to the shooting. Fortunately, Jamie and Eddie were both sure to close out the streak. However, Eddie was late for the family dinner – and everyone noticed.

When she finally arrived, she carried a high chair to set on the table. “We’ll use it when the baby is born,” Jamie revealed. Eddie confirmed her pregnancy and said her due date was in June.
