Nashville Predators lose 3rd straight in OT, Jared Spurgeon wins it for Minnesota Wild

The Nashville Predators lost theirs third game in a row in overtime on Saturday, falling 3-2 to the Minnesota Wild at the Xcel Energy Center.

Jared Spurgeon scored 58 seconds into overtime to earn Minnesota’s third straight win and hand Nashville their sixth overtime loss.

Predators forward Fedor Svechkov scored his first NHL goal in the first period, answering a goal by Wild defenseman Declan Chisholm. Then, after Ryan O’Reilly put the Predators on top with a power play goal, Minnesota forward Kirill Kaprizov scored his 15th goal of the season to tie the game 2-2.

Flip Gustavsson stopped 25 shots for his 11th win of the season. Juuse Saros made 25 saves in the loss.

Nashville (7-12-6) has three days off before traveling to Toronto to play the Maple Leafs on Wednesday. Minnesota (16-4-4) hosts the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday.

Nashville Predators, Minnesota Wild tied 2-2 after Ryan O’Reilly, Kirill Kaprizov goals

Former Predators forward Yakov Trenin sent Nashville to the power play after tripping goaltender Juuse Saros.

On the power play, Ryan O’Reilly made a nice deflection off a Steven Stamkos pass to give the Predators a 2-1 lead.

Kirill Kaprizov responded with a power play goal of his own for his 15th goal of the season.

Nashville Predators, Minnesota Wild tied 1-1 after one; Fedor Svechkov scores the first NHL goal

Minnesota Wild defenseman Declan Chisholm scored his first goal of the season to get things started. Out of the face, he fired a shot that hit both Nashville goalposts on its way in. That made it 1-0 Minnesota after an early flurry of shots from the Wild.

But Nashville answered 42 seconds later on Fedor Svechkov’s first NHL goal.

After Roman Josi gained the zone and drew defenders, he passed the puck to Luke Evangelista in the left circle. Evangelista spotted Svechkov on the second circle and sent a perfect pass for the one-time goal.

Luke Schenn, Marcus Foligno struggle early in first period; Predators and Wild scoreless in the 1st period

Less than 90 seconds into the match, Luke Schenn and Marcus Foligno dropped their gloves. The fight was mild, although Schenn landed a few punches.

It was Schenn’s third game of the season. He previously battled Los Angeles’ Tanner Jeannot and Boston’s Mark Kastelic.
