Will ASU clinch the title appearance with a win?

ASU football can’t yet clinch a Big 12 title game with a Territorial Cup win, as it’s still waiting for an outside win in its favor.

Heading into Saturday, Arizona State needed a win by at least one of the following teams to set up the Big 12 tiebreaker: Kansas (at Baylor), West Virginia (at Texas Tech), TCU (at Cincinnati), No. 24 Kansas State (at No. 18 Iowa State) or No. 19 BYU (vs. Houston).

Kansas and West Virginia both lost in the early window as road underdogs.

The Jayhawks were playing for their bowl lives with a 5-6 record, while the Mountaineers had already won a bowl game at 6-5.

Baylor kept his outside shot at the title game alive with the win over Kansas.

What other Big 12 games affect ASU’s title chances?

Kansas State and Iowa State kick off at 5:30 PM MST on FOX shortly after the Territorial Cup. BYU and Houston finally square off at 8:15pm on ESPN.

The only way ASU comes in with a BYU loss is if TCU beats Cincinnati, and that game starts at 16 on ESPN+.

The first, however, is a massive rivalry game against a very talented team that has won the past two iterations, winning in blowout fashion in 2023.

Follow the Territorial Cup, which starts at 1:30 PM MST on 98.7 FM, the Arizona Sports app or online.
