Unfortunately, his Agribition bullfight did not go as he had hoped and the bull knocked him to the ground.

“Last night didn’t go as planned, but that’s just the way it is sometimes,” he said. “I got a little wobbly, but I was still good.”

Despite the bumps and bruises, Cairns said he’s looking forward to the ranch rodeo competition, which includes skills he’s practiced since he was a kid.

“I’ve been roping my whole life, I’d been riding my whole life and I went to school for it, but the bullfighting side of it, I was introduced to when I was in college, so I’ve been doing it for about two years now,” he explained.

He said this was his third BFO Freestyle Tyrefighting competition.

“It’s been a lot of fun,” he said. “I’ve met a lot of cool people and I’ve been to a lot of cool places with it.”

He said he’s already teaching his younger siblings the ropes so they can follow in his footsteps when they grow up.

The 53rd Agribition started on Monday and runs until Saturday.

The 2024 Maple Leaf Finals Rodeo runs Wednesday through Saturday at the Brandt Center, and tickets are available through Agribtion’s website.
