Quinn Ewers likely for Lone Star Showdown, Longhorns a TD favorite

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers remains probable for Saturday’s Lone Star Showdown in College Station, according to the Southeastern Conference’s latest availability report.

The SEC’s report is updated at 19 CT on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of game week in SEC contests, and then a final update is provided 90 minutes before kickoff. Ewers was also listed as likely for Thursday night’s update.

Ewers injured his ankle in the no. 3 Longhorns’ 31-14 win over Kentucky last week at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium. It looks like he’ll be healthy enough to give it a shot against the No. 20 Texas A&M Aggies.

As of Thursday night, the Longhorns are a 6-point favorite on the road at Kyle Field, according to ESPN BET. Over the past 30 seasons, according to ESPN, the Aggies are 22-11 against the spread versus top five teams, second best in the FBS over that span. However, they are 0-3 against the spread in their last three games. The Longhorns are 8-16 against the spread against ranked opponents since 2010. That’s the worst in the FBS since then for teams with at least 15 games.

It’s the third time this season that Texas is a road favorite, the most of any FBS team. It is the 16th time overall this season that a ranked team is the underdog at home, and those teams have gone 11-4 against the spread.

The winner of the Lone Star Showdown will face Georgia on Dec. 7 in the SEC Championship. Texas has the best record in the SEC at 6-1 with A&M at 5-2, but a win for the Aggies would vault them into the title game via a tiebreaker. The SEC confirmed Georgia as a participant on Nov. 23 after the Bulldogs finished their conference 6-2. They have tiebreakers over Texas and Tennessee.
