Another foot of snow coming

A winter storm brought about 2 feet of snow to Gaylord and Sault Ste. Marie on Friday — and more is on the way.

Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula will continue to see snow accumulation from Saturday into Monday as intense bands of lake effect snow continue, according to the National Weather Service.

Sault Ste. Marie is expected to see 12-17 inches more of snow, and Gaylord is expected to get another 9-14 inches.

The fluffy snow could fall at a rate of 1 to 3 inches per hour.

Not all areas will receive a foot of snow from Saturday through Monday. Only areas within the snow bands will see such large amounts.

The NWS warned motorists that roads could quickly become covered in snow during the most intense bands. They should expect reduced visibility and slippery roads.
