Snow and icy conditions are causing problems on metro Detroit roads

DETROIT (WXYZ) — Lake-effect snow flurries and cold temperatures on Friday caused problems across metro Detroit roads, leading to breakdowns and closures.

With many people out of work and shopping for the best deals on Black Friday, more people were out on the roads which were covered in snow and ice. People were urged to drive slowly and keep a safe distance as crews treated the roads.

Portions of I-96 closed for several hours, leaving the highway empty during the first widespread snowfall of the season. I-94, I-75, I-696 and I-275 were among other highways that had closures.

Lake-effect snow and cold temperatures are expected to continue through the weekend.
