Rivalry games bring out the passion.

That’s certainly the case for Georgia football and Georgia Tech, two schools about 70 miles apart that take pride in playing a physical brand of football.

“We’ve got to have a seek-contact attitude and enjoy a street game,” Georgia coach Kirby Smart said. “Not everybody loves it, so it’s just one of those things you find out a lot about yourself when you get to play a really physical football team like these guys.”

Georgia is coming off a game where it struggled to stop the run and gave up 226 rushing yards to UMass in a 59-21 Bulldog victory.

Georgia Tech has rushed for 225 yards or more in four games this season, but passed for 272 and ran for 119 in its win over NC State last week

“The biggest thing for us is getting in our holes,” Georgia linebacker CJ Allen said. “With their offense and the quarterback running the ball, it creates an extra hat. Just being in the gaps and knowing where to pass and how quickly you can pass.”

Georgia Tech (7-4) hasn’t beaten Georgia (9-2) since 2016. The Bulldogs are the No. 8 in the coaches’ poll and no. 7 in the CFP rankings.

“When I think about Georgia, it’s just a strong dislike for that program,” Georgia Tech center Weston Franklin said. “I never liked it. Never wanted to be there. …It’s a goal every year to win a state championship and that’s what we plan to do.”
