3 moments from the 2024 season that Chiefs fans should be thankful for

It’s Thanksgiving Day, and that means it’s time to watch football, eat good food, and reflect on what you’re thankful for in your life. Kansas City Chiefs fans have a lot to be thankful for this season, even if this team frustrates us at times.

The easy things to be thankful for are the fact that the Chiefs are back-to-back Super Bowl champions or that they will be a Super Bowl contender as long as Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid are at the helm. The team is 10-1 this year and looks to be on its way to another AFC West title and potentially the number one seed heading into the playoffs.

For this post, though, we’re going to break it down and find three memories from this season that Chiefs Kingdom should be most grateful for. Whether it was a moment that made Chiefs fans thankful for the team this city has, or it helped the Chiefs win a game or some other reason, these moments are something that fans will cherish for quite some time.

The 2024 NFL regular season kicked off with the back-to-back defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs hosting the team they beat in the AFC Championship Game eight months prior. The first game of the NFL season meant it was Banner Night for the team that won the big game and got to host the first game of the next season.

For the Chiefs, banner nights have become routine as this was the third they got to host in five years. The even sweeter part of this moment was that they made it unfurl the Super Bowl LVIII banner in front of the team they beat to lift that Lombardi. Speaking of that game…

Think back to Week 1 of the NFL season. The game came down to the final seconds, as is the tradition for the Chiefs in this era, and the Ravens appeared to have the defending champions on the ropes. With the Chiefs up 27-20 and the Ravens getting the ball back with 1:50 left in regulation, Lamar Jackson then executed an 11-play, 77-yard drive that initially appeared to result in a touchdown.

Jackson found tight end Isaiah Likely open in the back of the end zone, and at first glance, the Ravens had scored the touchdown they needed with no time left on the clock. It’s likely that Baltimore would have gone for two to win, but they didn’t have a chance to make that decision because, as it turns out, Likely’s toe was barely out of bounds.

That was it. The Chiefs had won the game by a toe, thanks to Likely’s big feet. Had they lost, it wouldn’t have been the end of the world, but it would have been a bummer to have lost another banner night game in a row, so it was fun to see KC win this one.

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: The Chiefs had a game that came down to the final seconds! I know, shocking, right?

It looked like the Broncos were about to beat the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium for the first time since Peyton Manning retired when rookie quarterback Bo Nix helped put together a drive that got the Broncos down the field with enough time to kick a match winning field. goal. Fortunately for the Chiefs, they are experts at how to win in these situations and blocked Wil Lutz’s field goal attempt, giving KC the win and making Denver wait even longer for a chance to win in Arrowhead.

The Broncos radio call of this moment is absolutely everything and should be a must-listen for Chiefs fans if you haven’t heard it already. Absolute hilarity.
