Medrick Burnett Jr. dies at UAB Hospital after Magic City Classic injury

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – An Alabama A&M linebacker died Wednesday night after suffering an injury at the Magic City Classic back in October.

Jefferson County Coroner Matt Angelo confirmed that Medrick Burnett Jr. died at UAB Hospital Wednesday evening at 17:43

A redshirt freshman at Alabama A&M, Burnett Jr. was injured in a head-on collision during the Magic City Classic. He was later sent off.

The 20-year-old played in seven games this season for the Bulldogs. He transferred to Alabama A&M from Grambling State in the offseason.

Earlier Wednesday, Alabama A&M released a statement confirming Burnett Jr.’s death, but it was retracted later that day. After speaking with Burnett Jr.’s family, it was confirmed that he remained in the hospital on life support.
