Organic eggs sold at Costco recalled over salmonella concerns

Organic eggs sold at Costco are being recalled over concerns they may be contaminated with salmonella.

About 10,800 retail units of organic, grass-fed, 24-count eggs sold under Costco’s Kirkland Signature brand are being recalled by New York-based Handsome Brook Farms, according to a news release posted on the website of the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration.

The affected cartons were sold at 25 Costco stores in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee as of November 22.

The recall only applies to devices with Julian code 327 and a “use by date” of January 6, 2025. No other products are affected by the recall.

The recall was initiated after Handsome Brook determined that eggs not intended for stores were instead being packaged and distributed in retail packaging, according to the release. Additional supply chain checks and retraining are being put in place to prevent a recurrence, it said.

To date, there have been no complaints of illness. The recall is carried out in cooperation with the FDA.

Affected consumers should stop consuming the product and return the affected units to their local Costco store for a full refund or dispose of the products.
