This copy of Horizon Zero Dawn is just begging for Sony to sue

Seam Nintendo gears up to take down Palworld for its aping of Pokémon game design elements, another high-profile lawsuit seems inevitable with Tencent’s announcement of Light of Motiram (thanks Gematsu), a game that looks eerily similar to Sony’s Horizon Zero Dawn.

To be clear, we’re not saying, “Oh, hey, that reminds us Horizon.” This is more of an, “Oh my good lord, what are they thinkingit’s scandalous!” Light of Motiram is one of those cases where you feel comfortable typing the words “complete rip-off” without worrying about a letter from someone else’s lawyers.

It’s so ridiculously obvious that you have to wonder if it’s an attention-seeking exercise, a deliberate troll by Sony to see if Tencent can bait a lawsuit that the press will eagerly cover, then back off and change their design when they name is on everyone’s mind. Just take a look at this screenshot, for example:

Some people and mechanical animals are looking at a big tower.

Yes, there’s Aloy! And the well-known robot animals. In a post-apocalyptic world, nature takes over sci-fi architecture. And take a look at this close-up of a robot that non-Aloy is riding:

For context, here’s Aloy in an official screenshot from Horizon Forbidden West:

Aloy rides a mechanical beast while looking at the destroyed remains of the Golden Gate Bridge.

What japes!

Motiram‘s official site goes an extra step by helpfully highlighting some of its creature designs. Here is Agni:

And just past, here is Horizon‘s Fanghorn:

What a coincidence!

Oh go on, you’ve been good, get another one. Here is Moratorium‘s (honestly, I’m tired of scrolling up to see how it’s spelled) Yama horned:

And here is Horizon‘s Broadhead:

I could do that all day.

This is being created by Tencent’s developer, Polaris Quest, and is of course being described as an “open-world survival crafting game”, because isn’t everything? So of course it won’t have the wonderful epic open story Horizon game, but rather be another wooden sim using someone else’s aesthetic. And given that, it’s likely to be spectacularly popular, even if there’s no word on a release date yet. You have to assume that Sony will get to it, and quickly.

Although there is some irony in that since it’s Sony in Japan recently merged with Palworld creators Pocketpair to create a merch businessright in the face of Nintendo’s fury.
