Travel forecast for the United States

According to AAA, a record number of travelers is expected in the period between Tuesday and December 2. The Transportation Security Administration said it is preparing to screen a record number of passengers at airports across the country.

The coast-to-coast storm began its journey over the weekend when it slammed into the West Coast with torrential rain and heavy mountain snow, affecting communities along the busy Interstate 5 corridor from California to Washington.

The storm then pushed east and moved into the Rockies, dumping snow in Utah and Colorado.

Winter weather advisories remain in effect across the region, with cities such as Colorado Springs and Denver under Winter Weather Advisories.

A winter storm will move into the Northeast by Thanksgiving Day, which could delay last-minute holiday travel, those shopping for Black Friday or those starting their journeys home.

Heavy rain is likely over parts of the area Thursday night. The system will strengthen as it approaches the region and winds may also begin to increase causing delays at airports.
