Gregg Wallace resigns from BBC MasterChef amid “wrongdoing” investigation.

Gregg Wallace is to step away from presenting MasterChef after almost 20 years.

The news comes as complaints to the BBC from individuals about historic allegations of misconduct are being investigated, the show’s production company Banijay UK said.

Wallace, 60, has starred in the cookery show since 2005 alongside John Torode, 59.

It comes after a separate BBC review found he could continue working at the company following reports of an alleged incident in 2018.

The report was from his appearance on Impossible Celebrities.

Last month, Wallace denied saying “anything sexual” while appearing on the game show.

A statement from Banijay UK said: “This week the BBC received complaints from individuals relating to historical allegations of wrongdoing while working with presenter Gregg Wallace on one of our shows.

“While these complainants have not raised the allegations directly with our show producers or parent company Banijay UK, we believe it is appropriate to undertake an immediate, external review to investigate fully and impartially.

“While this review is underway, Gregg Wallace will be stepping down from his role on MasterChef and is committed to co-operating fully throughout the process.

“Banijay UK’s duty of care to staff is always a priority and our expectations of behavior are made clear to both cast and crew on all productions, with multiple ways of raising concerns, including anonymously, clearly promoted on set. Although these are historical allegations, cases brought to our attention where these expectations are not met are thoroughly investigated and dealt with appropriately.

“If anyone would like to speak to us or raise any questions or concerns, they can contact speakupbanijayuk.com in confidence.”

In October, Wallace addressed the allegations on social media.

He released an Instagram video and stated: “The story hitting the papers…

“This was investigated immediately when it happened six years ago by the BBC and the result was that I had not said anything sexual.

“I’m going to have to repeat this again. I didn’t say anything sexual. Thank you for your time.”

He then posted another video in which he claimed: “Despite what the papers suggest, six years ago no one accused me of flirting with anyone or hitting on anyone.

“And the reason I say that is because of my wife, Anna (Sterpini).

“I have always been faithful to my wife Anna and have never flirted or hit on anyone in the 12 years I met her and fell in love with her.”

Wallace continued: “It’s important so people don’t misunderstand. I’m faithful to my wife.”

According to The Sun, Wallace was accused of making “inappropriate sexual comments” to a younger female member of the production team.

A BBC spokesman said: “We take any issue raised with us seriously and have robust processes in place to deal with them,” The Express reports.

“We are always clear that any behavior that falls below the standards expected by the BBC will not be tolerated.

“If a person is contracted directly by an external production company, we will share any complaints or concerns with that company and we will always support them as they deal with them.”
