Ball State football vs Bowling Green: Live updates, highlights

Ball State football will host Bowling Green on Senior Day in its first game since relieving former coach Mike Neu of his duties.

Interim coach Colin Johnson will lead Cardinals for the first time since Neu was fired on November 16. Ball State (3-7, 2-4 MAC) made the move after falling short in the bowl game for the third straight season. Johnson, like Neu, is a former Ball State player who played center from 1999-2002.

Bowling Green (6-4, 5-1 MAC) enters the game on a four-game winning streak with conference championship aspirations. Ball State hasn’t fared well against Bowling Green in recent years. The Cardinals are 1-8 in their nine matchups with Falcon since 1999.

After allowing a long touchdown drive on Bowling Green’s first drive, the Cardinals has forced consecutive three-and-outs.

Ball State’s offense continued its early struggles on the Cardinals’ third drive. After a 16-yard gain on third-and-19, Ball State decided to go for it on fourth-and-short at midfield. Kadin Semonza’s pass fell incomplete and Bowling Green took over at its own 48-yard line.

Ball State trails Bowling Green, 7-0, after the first 15 minutes.

After Ball State went three-and-out on the opening drive, Bowling Green went on a 16-play, 93-yard touchdown drive. Quarterback Connor Bazelak capped the drive with a 4-yard touchdown pass to tight end Harold Fannin Jr. The scoring drive took 8:44 off the clock in the first quarter and gave Bowling Green a 7-0 lead.
