Report: Aaron Rodgers wants to play in 2025, but not for Jets

It could be the next shot in the cold war heating up between the Jets and quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Days after reports surfaced that Jets owner Woody Johnson suggested benching Rodgers following a Week 4 loss to the Broncos, TheAthletic.com’s Dianna Russini reports that Rodgers, who 10 days ago said he wants to play in 2025, doesn’t want to play for the Jets in 2025.

And so the foundation is completely in place for Rodgers’ two-pronged, post-bye media blitz. Pat McAfee and AJ Hawk will ask Rodgers about it on Tuesday. Rodgers will grumble and mumble about media leaks before possibly saying anything significant on the question of whether he wants to continue playing for the Jets, in the future or now. Then on Wednesday he will have his usual press conference where he may (or may not) be asked pointed and repeated questions about the latest developments and reports.

Either way, it’s becoming increasingly clear that it’s over for the Jets and Rodgers. The only remaining question is whether he will be placed on injured reserve, whether he will be benched, whether he will play out of the lineup and whether he will be cut.

When the Giants release Daniel Jones, Rodgers might want the same thing — if they consider benching him. Perhaps, in what would be his last act as de facto GM Rodgers can also have receiver Davante Adams released.
