Spurs’ Maddison celebrates birthday with early excitement against City

Under-four Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou may have birthday boy James Maddison to thank later after Spurs jumped to a 2-0 lead at the Etihad against struggling Man City.

On a night when City celebrated Ballon d’Or winner Rodri with a pre-match spectacle, it is Spurs who have stolen the party following a brace from Maddison on his 28th birthday.

His first goal of the night came in the 13th minute with Spurs’ first touch in City’s penalty area, before completing his brace seven minutes later.

Maddison has now already bettered his goal tally from last season (4) and now sits on five league goals this term as Spurs remain in the hunt to climb back into Champions League contention.
