Airplane passengers film the Icelandic volcano lava from above

Passengers filmed lava plumes and smoke as their plane passed over a volcano on Iceland’s Reykjanes peninsula.

It was erupting for the seventh time in less than a year. Below, the parking lot at Iceland’s world-famous Blue Lagoon was engulfed in lava.

Hotel guests and nearby homes were evacuated, but authorities said there was no threat to flights in the region.

Before 2021, the Reykjanes Peninsula had not seen volcanic activity for 800 years.

Seismologist say a long-dormant fault line beneath the landscape has reawakened.
