Maya Jama makes rare love life comment after Stormzy ‘moves on’ with pop star

Maya Jama has clarified her relationship status in a rare comment four months after her shock split from Stormzy.

The Love Island host, 30, revealed what she was looking for in her next partner after her ex was recently spotted kissing pop star Victoria Monét.

“I’m so happy right now, but the next person I meet I want to marry and have kids with, so obviously I feel picky,” Maya confided The standard.

‘I’ve made such a lovely life for myself alone and I don’t want anyone who won’t add to it. I’m in this lovely bubble and I don’t want you unless you make me happy. If you’re not, I don’t need you.

‘One thing I’ve learned: some people say, “I’m lonely, I need someone.” But the mission in life is to make yourself happy, and then find someone who brings something to the table to match that.’

It comes after Stormzy, 31, sparked fresh romance rumors following a PDA with Grammy-winning R&B star Victoria, 35.

In the pictures, the Grime star looked in love as he gave Victoria a hug that lifted her off the ground, followed by a kiss on the lips, at London’s Heathrow Airport.

An eyewitness told The Sun: ‘Both Stormzy and Victoria looked absolutely smitten with each other. They kissed and when he hugged her he lifted her into the air. It looks like he’s in a great place after his breakup with Maya.’

Known for her sultry R&B sound and collaborations with stars such as Ariana Grande, Victoria recently announced her split from fitness trainer John Gaines, with whom she shares a three-year-old daughter, Hazel.

In July, Maya and Stormzy announced their split in a joint statement that sent shockwaves through the nation, which had been rooting for the power couple.

Explaining their relationship ‘didn’t work’, they wrote: ‘We still believe in the absolute world of each other, we still care and respect each other, we’re still grateful for the time we’ve had together and we’re still friends and will always be friends.’

The couple first started dating in 2014, but split after five years. Stormzy has spoken publicly about his regret at the end of their first relationship.

He told Louis Theroux in a BBC documentary: “It was like, ‘OK, you made a mistake and you’re losing someone you loved, someone you cared about, someone special to you.’

‘That’s probably the greatest loss a man can have, isn’t it? There were other things in terms of mistakes I had made. I did not do what a man should do to fully appreciate, love and care for his woman.’

However, they managed to make amends and rekindled their romance in 2023, but ended it for good this summer.

Maya has another busy year ahead of her after being announced as Rita Ora’s replacement on The Masked Singer. She joins Mo Gilligan, Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross, all reprising their celebrity detective roles, as well as host Joel Dommett.

She said: ‘I’m such a Masked Singer fan so it’s going to be so much fun to be on the panel with Davina, Jonathan and Mo – and of course working with Joel!

‘I can’t wait to find out who’s under all the incredible costumes, get in the mood for their performances and get front row seats to the unmaskings.

‘I’ve been watching the show for a long time, so I’m definitely bringing my A-game to the panel!’
