Khalid comes out as gay after being outed

Singer Khalid has come out as gay, saying he made the decision to publicly reveal his sexuality after being outed.

The seven-time Grammy nominee, 26, shared a series of posts on X on Friday night in which the hitmaker said he was neither “ashamed” of being gay nor “hiding anything,” while noting that his sexuality is “nobody’s (sic) business” .”

In his first postKhalid shared a rainbow flag emoji along with three exclamation points and added, “there you go. next topic please lol.”

One person responded to his post, writing “Wait, hope Mr. Khalid isn’t GEHHH!” That prompted Khalid to quote the reply and add“I am! And that’s okay.”

The hitmaker then revealed that he was out.

“I came out (sic) and the world still continues to turn. Let’s get this straight (lmao) I’m not ashamed of my sexuality! Really it’s not a big deal! But I’m okay with me,” he wrote along with a black heart emoji and captioned the post “love yall.”

Khalid continued to take issue with the suggestion that he was hiding his sexuality.

“(T)he cabinet was glass baby. but we accept you. It’s not about who you love, it’s about your artistry!” said one commenter.

In another post, Khalid replied“I wasn’t hiding anything! It’s just none of your business.”

After a fan came to his defense, writing on X that Khalid “didn’t have to TELL anybody,” the singer replied“thanks!!!! I never hid.”

Khalid then resigned and wrote in a separate post“aight love yall thank you guys i’m out of this.”

Speculations about who outed Khalid grew as soon as he made the surprising revelation. Many fans suggested that rapper and singer Hugo Almonte was responsible. Almonte, 28, who is openly bisexual, shared a photo on X of him and Khalid less than 30 minutes before the latter started posting.

“B—ch ass lied and said I broke into his house because I didn’t want him,” Almonte wrote.

The post was the last in a series of messages with disparaging remarks about “One of your favorite gay rappers,” suggesting that Almonte and the unnamed individual had sexual relations.

Khalid received an outpouring of support online.

“Getting out is terrible!” one person submitted. “I’m sorry you had to go through that! We love and support you!”

Another fan wrote“You’re awesome! To the person who challenged you, they’re miserable with themselves, you keep making you!!”

Khalid was named one of Time’s most influential people of 2019 an impressive record in the music industry. His second album “Free Spirit” debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 and has been certified platinum by the RIAA. The title track from that album hit No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, and his previous singles “Location” and “Young Dumb & Broke” climbed to No. 3, respectively. 2 and no. 1 on the Billboard Hot R&B Songs chart.
