3 biggest takeaways for Sixers after much-needed win over Nets

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia 76ers ended their 5-game losing skid on Friday with a much-needed 113-98 victory over the Brooklyn Nets. Despite Joel Embiid and Paul George being sidelined due to injury, the Sixers were able to pick up the big win.

Jared McCain had 30 points and five rebounds to lead Philadelphia. Tyrese Maxey had 26 points and five assists, Kelly Oubre Jr. had 11 and nine rebounds, Caleb Martin had 10 points, Guerschon Yabusele had 10 points and 11 rebounds and Andre Drummond had 10 and six rebounds.

Here are the three biggest takeaways from the win over the Nets:

Jared McCain and Tyrese Maxey are the backcourt of today and the future

The Sixers have found their backcourt for the next 10 years. McCain is only 20 years old, while Maxey is still only 24, and the two of them were fantastic in this contest against the Nets. McCain had 21 points after halftime, while Maxey had 16, and they put the Nets away in the fourth quarter.

One could worry about the fact that both McCain and Maxey are smaller guards, leading to issues on the defensive end, but these guards are fearless and ready to prove themselves.

“I think because we both play hard,” McCain said of the smaller backcourt. “I think a lot of the game is just playing hard. Like at this point, they’re going to try to get the mismatch. They’re going to have an offensive plan to try to go against us, but as long as we play hard, I think that we’ll be able to hold our own, that’s something that a lot of people just don’t do, and I think we put in a lot of effort, give a lot of energy, and I think we can make up for it the.”

Guerschon Yabusele provides space as a center

With Embiid sidelined, coach Nick Nurse turned to Yabusele to start in his place. The Dancing Bear knocked down a pair of 3s early in the contest, forcing the Nets to adjust and allowing the Sixers to have the proper spacing on the floor. He played his role to a T in this one, and Philadelphia needed all of his contributions.

“The thing about him is he doesn’t make any mistakes,” the nurse said of Yabusele. “He’s solid, first of all. He also provides a good 3-point threat. He did that to start the game. I thought that gave us a good boost. He’s a pretty sure pair of hands that gets the ball going, when things He plays really hard, rebounds, he’s a smart guy and plays hard and is really solid.”

Tyrese Maxey looks like himself

This is a big development for Philadelphia. It has been a struggle for Maxey to begin the season. He entered the contest shooting just 39.3% from the floor and 26.5% from deep. He shot 11-for-17 overall and 3-for-6 from deep against the Nets. This is an effort that he must take and build on. Maxey is a great talent and Philadelphia needs him to get back to who he usually is. Friday is a step in the right direction.
