Singer Khalid comes out after saying he was ‘outed’

Grammy-nominated singer Khalid opened up about his sexuality in a series of X posts on Friday.

He first posted a rainbow flag emoji and wrote“there you go. Next topic please lol.” In response to a user’s quote said: “Wait, hope Mr. Khalid is not GEHHH,” Khalid replied with his own quote – “I am! And that’s okay.”

“I got out and the world still keeps turning,” the singer explained in a third X post in 30 minutes. “Let’s get this straight (lmao) I’m not ashamed of my sexuality! Really it’s not a big deal! But I’m okay with me… love you guys.”

The “Eastside” singer born Khalid Donnel Robinson has always embraced LGBTQ aesthetics in his artistry and championed queer causes, such as when he recorded the song “Love Lies” with Normani for Dear Simon soundtrack. But he has never publicly revealed his own sexuality identity.

Before report with an “aight love yall thanks yall I’m off this,” Khalid insisted to a user who commented “the closet was made of glass” that he “wasn’t hiding anything! It’s just none of your business.” Another X user pointed out that in addition to “Love Lies,” Khalid released the satellite “LGBTQ Anthem” in 2022, prompting the singer to answer“thanks!!!! I never hid.”

Khalid has not revealed who apparently “outed” him, and his representatives did not immediately respond to Entertainment Weekly’s request for comment.

The 26-year-old singer debuted in 2016 with the single “Location,” a take on young love that announced him as a major new voice in music. With artists like Lil Wayne and Kehlani appearing on “Location” remixes, it was clear that it only took Khalid a single song to earn his rightful place in the current pop landscape.
