Trinity reaches semis after rally vs Ballard

Trinity football entered Friday’s Class 6A third-round playoffs against Ballard with five consecutive shutouts.

The Shamrocks allowed 21 points in the first half, but pitched a shutout in the second half en route to a 35-21 victory.

Trinity took the lead for good late in the third quarter when Nicholas Lococo intercepted Bruins quarterback Larry Irvin’s pass and returned it for a touchdown and a 27–21 lead.

Shamrocks senior Chris Wilson and sophomore Jamaurion Berry carried the offensive burden.

Wilson finished with 143 yards on 23 carries and Berry had 112 yards on 17 carries with three rushing touchdowns.

In the first half, Ballard senior receiver Maurice Stephens stole the show.

Stephens had five catches for 190 yards and three touchdowns (72, 83 and 14 yards) in the first half as the Bruins led 21-17.

The Bruins defense also forced two turnovers in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Trinity controlled the clock by dominating the ground game.

In the first half, Berry rushed for 77 yards and two touchdowns, and Wilson added 87 yards.

Trinity led after 17-14 Carson Hilbert made a school-record 55-yard field goal.
